Synthesis and Characterization of New Copoly(amide-imide)s Based on 4,4’-Diamino Diphenylsulfone and Different Diacids

Two new copolymers were synthesized through the direct polycondensation reaction of 4,4′-diamino diphenyl sulfone with trimelido-p-amido benzoic acid, 4,4 -azobenzenedicarboxylic acid, adipic acid and fumaric acid in the medium consisting of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), triphenyl phosphate, calcium chloride and pyridine. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, element analyses, inherent viscosity, and solubility tests. Thermal stabilities of the resulted copolymers were compared using their thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) thermograms. The results obtained showed that the thermal stabilities of the copolymers were influenced by the structures of utilized diacids. The data obtained from the natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis rationalize the thermal analysis results.
