(PVA/ Chitosan Blend) /Metal Binding Peptide as a Bioabsorption System: the Uptake of Cadmium Ion

Metal-binding peptides/proteins can be used as bioabsorbents in the bioremediation of industrial waste water. Histidine-rich metal binding peptides/ proteins have frequently been used to create more potent bioabsorbents. We have created a novel system based on the hexahistidine peptide which was immobilized on the chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film and developed for bioaccumulation of heavy metal ions. The amount of protein immobilized on the chitosan surface was quantified by the Lowry method. The maximum protein immobilization on the chitosan surface was 60 %.( and) ion uptake efficiency was studied by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The absorption experimental results showed that chitosan-PVA film containing hexahistidine peptides had better absorption properties for metal ions than chitosan film or metal binding peptide separately
