In Vitro and In Vivo Studies of PVA/CM-Chitosan/Honey Hydrogel Prepared by Gamma Irradiation

Hydrogels containing poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA), carboxymethylated chitosan (CM-chitosan) and honey were prepared by gamma radiation technique in order to be used as wound dressing. The solid concentration of the polymer solution was 12 wt % and the ratio of PVA/CM-chitosan/honey was 7/3/2. The irradiation applied dose was 20 kGy. To evaluate the permeability of E. coli bacteria through the prepared hydrogel, and to study the wound healing ability of hydrogel, microbe penetration and wound healing tests were done respectively.
