Self-healing property of a water-based coating containing oil filled- microcapsules

In this study, self-healing property of a water-based acrylic latex containing linseed oil-filled microcapsules was evaluated. Mechanical property of un-scratched and scratched coating films was evaluated by means of tensile strength measurements. The results showed that the oil materials released from the ruptured microcapsules within the cracked area and filled it. The healed cracked area may restore mechanical properties and also postpone diffusion of moisture and oxygen into the coating’s film
