Antibacterial activities of dyed wool and nylon fibers with a copper(II)nitrate complex

A copper(II) nitrate containing phosphoramide ligands was synthesized and used for dyeing wool and nylon fibers. The synthesized dye was characterized by elemental analysis, 13C, 31P, 1H NMR and FT-IR spectral studies. After dyeing, the fibers were examined by some tests such as light fastness and wash fastness. The antibacterial activities of both the dyed wool and nylon fibers were evaluated against Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis bacterium and it was found that the antibacterial effect was increased by increasing the dye concentration from %0. 1 to 0.5% o.w.f.
