Mechanical properties of an epoxy composite coating containing linseed oil-filled microcapsules, and clay and zirconia nanoparticles

This paper considers the effects of simultaneous addition of microcapsules and nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of a self-healable epoxy coating. A model nano-composite coating was prepared via addition of 1 wt% APS treated nano-ZrO2 and 1 wt % nano-clay particles to epoxy resin. 5 wt % linseed oil-filled microcapsules with average diameter of 72 μm were added into the epoxy resin.
