Investigating the Effect of Sidewalk Project on Economic Status of Commercial Areas (Case study: 17th Shahrivar St. - between Imam Hossein (PBUH) Plaza and Shohada Sq.) abstract

Following the development of cities and use of personal vehicles in internal urban transportation, the role of pedestrians has been gradually downplayed in cities and urban spaces and spatial quality has been reduced in public city areas, open urban spaces, and sidewalks. These are areas that play pivotal role as a platform and origin in upgrading contact levels, social communications and interactions between citizens. The main aim of this study is to pay adequate attention to the importance and undeniable effects of sidewalks on the alteration use of adjacent trading units from a static position to more dynamic and economic mode. In the present study, 17th Shahrivar Sidewalk, between ImamHossein (PBUH) Plaza and Shohada Plaza was investigated. This study aimed at investigating the qualitative and quantitative parameters that have economically impacted on this sidewalk. In order to have better perception of the issue and also have more accurate conclusion, five-scale scoring technique and analysis of SWOT table were adapted in this study. Finally, using SPSS software, the impact of sidewalk on the increase of economic potential of commercial areas and the related businesses was analyzed
