SYNTHESIS OF AL2Oa-ZRBa NANOCOMPOSITE POWDERBY MECHANICAL ALLOYING abstract
In this research Al2O3-ZrB, nanocomposite powder was successfully synthesized by high energy ball milling of ZrO2, B2O3 and Al powders at nominal room temperature. Effect of milling time was investigated. XRD, TEM and SEM analysis were performed for monitoring of the composite formation, microstructure and morphology of the milled powders. Results showed that this composite was formed between 20-25 h of milling time. High energy milling led to the smaller grain size and larger lattice strain. The mean grain size and microstrain of 11.7 nm and 0.2% were obtained for 30 h milled sample on the basis of Reitveld refinement method that is in consistent with TEM observations. SEM images showed that very fine particles with the spherical morphology were procured after 15 h of milling. Further milling up to 30 hled to agglomeration of primary particles
