SO/TIO, ASA SOLID ACID CATALYST FOR O-ACYLATION PHENOL

In this work, SO/TiO, was prepared by the sol-gel method using ammonium sulfate as sulfate precursor. The ammonium sulfate increases the brönsted acid sites of the catalyst. Characterization of sulfated titania catalyst was carried out by means of various techniques such as infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) methods. The sulfated titania catalyst showed very high activity for the O-acylation of phenol with acetic anhydride under solvent free conditions. The yield of this reaction was obtained to be 99.5% in 90 min at room temperature.
