Macarthur Water System is an isolated system and provides potable water to the south-west region of Sydney, servicing an area of approximately 371,800 hectares and 290,000 people in 2016. Raw water is treated at the Macarthur Water Filtration Plant (WFP) and delivered to customers via the Macarthur water distribution network which includes 14 reservoirs.The objectives of the System Blueprint are defined as To position the system to serve customers and the community over a 30-year horizon, taking into account:o Strategic drivers (growth, social and environmental)o Lowest life cycle cost with acceptable riskso Business opportunities To develop a system strategy with associated capital and operational investmentThe purpose of this paper is to identify a preferred short term (0 – 5 year) investment strategy for the Macarthur WFP and water delivery network, within the context and consideration of a suite of potential long term responses addressing growth and risk.In my role as Water Planner, I was required to undertake a number of investigations for providing a practical document that transparently describes the results of the analysis undertaken of the existing infrastructure and augmentation required to support future growth
