Abstract:

In oil and gas wells, surface chokes are installed to control production flow rate or pressure. Chokes prevent water/gas conning, sand production and increasing the rate of corrosion by controlling the flow. Choke is a tool with a valve that can be fixed or adjustable that controls the flow rate of liquid or gas. Since in some fields no flow meters are installed on the wells of platform, so the production rate of each well is not available and only total production rates of any platform wells are reported. But for analysis the production data and to predicting the production, it is necessary to determine the rate of production of each well. In order to controlling the flow production rate or pressure, in oil and gas wells, surfaced chokes are installed. In this paper at first the needed correlations for calculating flow rate in wellhead chokes has been Presented and discussed. Then the calculations relating to determining the flow rate in chokes in critical condition for a well in the west of Iran has been done by the Prosper software and other popular correlations. After that, the percentage of relative error of any formula for flow rate determination compared with the real wellhead data is measured. Finally the best relation with the least error for calculating flow rate in wellhead chokes for intended field has been found.
