Improve Power Quality with Unified Power Flow Controller Based on Wide Area Measurement System abstract

The power systems have unforeseeable occurrences and variable of the serious change, hence the recent significance of wide area measurement and control systems (WAMACS) have been essential. In WAMCS data by phase measurement units (PMU) at buses of the power system, measured and sent to phasor data concentrator (PDC) to implement control programs. In this paper presents controller based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) optimize data and power active change considering power balance in power grid. The proposed controller use for the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) according to the disturbance in system. The results under various disturbance in WSCC3-machine 9-bus illustrate role of WAMCS in improving power quality
