Abstract:

Since nodes in vehicular ad hoc networks are mobile, transfer of information, especially sensitive trafficdata such as video is very important in these networks. The most important challenges in transferring video packetsare reducing congestion, achieving optimum bandwidth consumption, and reducing peer-to-peer delay. To increasenetwork robustness and reliability, protocols use network coding to reduce the number of packets transferred, andthus, reduce bandwidth consumption. In this paper, network coding techniques, as well as previous work in this areaare discussed and compared. The results show that using network coding in vehicular ad hoc networks reduces thenumber of packets transferred, network congestion, and peer-to-peer delay, while increasing the availablebandwidth.
