Abstract:

Writing in foreign language classes has long been a challenge for both teachers and students. With the advent of globalization, there is a pressing need for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers to delve into students’ attitude and see how they are related to their writing performancein order to help students develop the skill and confidence needed to take an active role in English lessons. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between EFL learners attitudeand their writing performance. To this end, a group of English majors filled out a questionnaire designed by Rose’s (1984) and dopted for the current study. Besides, students were asked to write on a topic presented by the researchers. Then both the questionnaire and writing performance of the participants were scored and statistical analysis was performed based on the scores theyreceived. Then tests of correlation were run to see if there is any significant relationship between the two variables. The results indicated a significant negative correlation between EFL learners attitude and their writing performance both for male and female categories. In addition, to compare the difference between male and female EFL learners attitude and their writing performance, anIndependent Sample T-test was performed. Results, however, showed no significant difference between the two groups.
