Abstract:

This study aimed at investigating the effect of recast and direct focused written corrective feedback on the coherence of EFL learners written scripts. To this end, 60 intermediate male participants from cultural organization of Tehran Municipality were selected through a piloted preliminary English test (PET) and were randomly divided into two experimental groups of 32 and 28 members (direct focused and recast). The study had a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. 9 picture composition tasks were administered as narrative writing tests. one of the tests was administered in pre-test session, one in post-test and the rest in duration of the study. During study, one experimental group received direct focused written corrective feedback and the other received recast feedback as treatment. Statistical analyses showed that there was no significant difference between the effect of recast and direct focused written corrective feedback on the coherence of EFL Learners written scripts, so the null hypothesis was confirmed.
