Abstract:
In this study, we will discuss that, whether the contrasting or comparison between two important dynamic constructs, namely EAP (English for academic purposes) and ESP (English for specific purposes) which are the rudimental factors in new era of applied linguistics is rational and necessary or irrational. In other words, can we claim that the teaching of English for specific purposes has rudimentary priority in comparison or contrasting to teaching English for academic proposes We should know that given the fact about terms in the language learning and teaching shed light that they are two distinct entities, whether there is such a minor possibility that through teaching the content knowledge (procedural) and skills in one of them, the student can attain proficiency in the other. Through reviewing the courses designed in ESP and EAP, it was revealed that the comparison between these two disciplines is quite irrational and no redundancy was seen in the use of both ESP and EAP concept; they sometimes have common core objectives but most of the time they provide prescriptions according to some fundamental learners needs and expectations for distinct problems.
