Abstract:

In winter 2008, 30-40 % of Liza auratus captured in eastern side of the Mazandaran Province showed symptoms such as dilatation of abdominal cavity, listlessness, emaciation and abnormal swimming. The aim of the present study was to compare selected hematological factors among 1 and 2 years old L. auratus. Method and materials: 22 fish samples were collected alive, 11 specimens being one year old and 11 specimens being two years old. There were no symptoms in 22 specimens. The average weight and length in were 74.9±20.2 (gr) , 23.6±2.1 (cm) and 78.5±30.07 (gr) , 23.2±3.2 (cm) for one and two years old, respectively. They maintained in fiberglass tank containing aerated saltwater. After anesthesia with Dentol extract, blood samples (0.5-1 cc) were taken from fish from caudal peduncle and then transferred into Ependrof tubes containing anticoagulant (one drop or 1cc heparin). Some of the most important hematological parameters were evaluated, including R.B.C., W.B.C., P.C.V. (packed cell volume), Hb (hemoglobin) and erythrocyte indices, M.C.V.( mean corpuscular – volume), M.C.H. (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) and differential of blood cell count. Results and conclusion: There was significant difference between R.B.C. , P.C.V. and Hb between the two age groups. There was no significant difference between other parameters (W.B.C. , M.C.H. and M.C.V.).
