Capoata damascina, a new host for four Myxobolus parasites from the Halil-Rud River, Kerman Province abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify different Myxobolus parasites in the Capoeta damascina from Halil-Rud River in the Kerman Province. Method & Materials: During a parasitological study 109 specimen of Capoeta damascina of the Halil-Rud River were examined in Kerman province from Oct. 2007 to Sep. 2008. The fishes were collected from 4 stations and transported to the aquatic research laboratory in Biological Sciences Faculty of Shahid Beheshti University. Then they identified and examined for parasitic infections. Results & Conclusion: According to the results seven different Myxobolus spp. were detected. They are as follows: Myxobolus samgoricus, M. cristatus, M. varicorhin, M. musajevi, M. karelicus, M. buckei and M. suturalis .From one to the forth were recorded from different part of Iran before, but M. karelicus, M. buckei and M. suturalis are the first recorded. During this research Capoeata damascina is introduced as a new host for M. musajevi, M. karelicus, M. buckei and M. suturalis. Geographical distribution of Myxobolus in different ecosystem must be considered for fish culture system. This study revealed more Myxobolus species from different hosts in Oriental Faunal Region of Iran; new hosts and new locality record.
