Electrochemical Noise Analysis of Some Industrial Metals during see Test abstract
An investigation on the electrochemical. noise generation during Stress Corrosion Cracking (Sec) of 304 austenitic Stainless Steel (304S.S) in acidified 25%MgCl2 and 70-30 brass in Mattson's solution was conducted. In:itiation and propagation of cracks in both specimens can be recognized from the fluctuations of potential and current.Nucleation of cracks in 304S.S was accomplished with spontaneous jumps in both the current and potential with slow recovery, while at the final stage of failure, the intensity of fluctuations was quite high and continuous. In brass samples the initiation and propagation of cracks started with spontaneous jumps of the current and potential having non-complete recovery. The relation between potential and current fluctuations has been evaluated in time domain. According to the obtained results, it was found that there are good relations between current and potential noise caused by initiation and
propagation ofcracks during sec which maybe used for sec monitoring.
