QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF BETAHISTINE HYDROCHLORIDE IN COMMERCIAL TABLETS SING HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY abstract

A simple, rapid, precise and accurate isocratic reversed-phase HPLC method was developed and validated fordetermination of Betahistine Hydrochloride in commercial tablets. Separation was achieved on a Phenomenax C18column (150 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) using a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile-sodium acetate buffer (pH 4.7) (35:65,v/v) at a flow rate of 1.5 ml min-1 and UV detection at 254 nm. The column temperature was maintained at 40 ºC. Thelinearity of the proposed method was investigated in the range of 0.256-0.384 mg mL-1 (r = 0.9984). Precision were lessthan 2.0% and accuracy was between 99.81% and 100.88%. This method was validated and successfully applied inanalysis of tablet dosage form because no chromatographic interferences from formulation excipients were found.
