Abstract:
Polypropylene (PP)-based systems were reinforced with polycarbonate (PC) and poly[styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-bstyrene] (SEBS) varying the amount of dispersed phases to prepared a series of polyolefin blends with superior properties. Blends were compatibilized with SEBS-g-MAH in a manner that the type of PC changed. This provided with different viscosity ratios and changed the type of morphology of blends from PC/SEBS core-shell particles to an inverse SEBS/PC core/shell in PP matrix. It was found that viscosity ratio controls the size of composite droplets and the kind, population, and shape of dispersed domains, as monitored by SEM and rheological assessments.
