Abstract:
Cancer is one of the important causes of death all around the world; so attention to prevention and its medication has high importance. Glioma is the most common of primary brain tumor and themalignant form of it is the most lethal of adult brain tumor, that glioblastoma covers about 50% of glioma tumors. Regarding to advances in sciences of cancers and understanding to the glioblastomapathophysiology, the glioblastoma cancer is considered as non-curable disease. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the anti-proliferative effects of hydro-ethanolic extract of Portulaca oleacea onhuman glioblastoma cancer cell line (U-87) and the role of NF B. Cytotoxicity of the extract was measured using MTT assay. Moreover, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the level of NF B protein were evaluated. All tested were performed after 24, 48 and 72 h.The extract had cytotoxicity effects on U-87 cells with concentration and time dependent manners. The mechanism of cytotoxicity of the extract at the first hours of incubation and low concentrations were dependent on ROS. Our results indicated that the extract acts as NF B inhibitor with concentration and time dependent manners.Present study may suggest the anti-NF kB activity of Portulaca oleracea along with upstream ROS. Furthermore, the extract as ethnobotaniocal may be used as adjunctive anti-cancer activity against glioblastoma multiforme
