The prognostic value of akt/pkb activation in breast cancer: a meta-analysis abstract

Akt (protein kinase B), is a serine/threonine protein kinase, which its dysregulation is suggested to be associated with development and resistance to therapy in several human tumors, including breastcancer. Therefore we assessed the impacts of AKT phosphorylationon prognosis in terms of progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) in women with breast cancer. Data were extracted from publications in Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library until March 2017. Data on PFS and OS were obtained and 1777 subjects were enrolled. Data from 4 studies showed that AKT phosphorylation was not significantly associated with better PFS (pooled HRs, 0.892; 95% CI 0.467– 1.704; P=0.729). Meta-analysis of 3 eligible studies reporting on OS, demonstrated that AKT phosphorylation was illustrated the lack of association between with better OS (pooled HRs, 1.708; 95% CI 0.382– 7.646; P=0.484). This finding failed to demonstrate a significant association between AKT and better PFS and OS, although further studies are needed to explore the data in prospective clinical setting in patients with breast cancer.
