Abstract:

Wilms tumor is the most common malignant tumor in childhood, and accounts for 5% -6% of all cancers in this period. The use of new therapeutic approaches with minimal complications and thedevelopment of surgical techniques and post-surgical care has greatly increased the survival rate in these patients in recent years. Considering the importance of Wilms tumor as the most common primarytumor of the primary malignant neoplasm in children and limited research cases in the country, this study was conducted. This cross-sectional study was carried out. The study was performed on all patients with definitive diagnosis of Wilms tumor in the period between 2001 and the first six months of 1396 admitted and treated in Dr. Sheikh Hospital in Mashhad. The data were collected using patientrecords and checklist, and extracted primary information from medical records of the hospital and follow up on the complications and recurrence of disease and death of patients. In this study, 161 infected children from 1385 to the end of the 6th month of the year 1396 were studied. 45.34% of the children were boys and 54.65% were girls. The mean age of participants in this study was 4.23 ± 1.21 years. The most common age is between 2 and 6 years old. 38.5% of children with complete recovery, 54.65% were cleared with partial recovery 2.48% of patients died. Given the high prevalence of Wilms tumor in children, the survival rate and poor prognosis of the disease make it more apparent that more research is needed to screen and diagnose this disease and to bring treatment approaches closer to theinternational programs
