Abstract:
The goal of green chemistry is to the design and synthesis of nanoparticles, with reducing or elimination of hazardous substances. In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO nanoparticles) weresynthesized via green chemistry using Rubia tinctorum extract as reducing and stabilizing agent. The MTT (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) cell viability assay was performedon HT-29 colon cancer cell line. The cells were incubated 24 hours with different concentration of Zn O nanoparticles including (10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 μg/ml) compared to HUVEC normal cells as control. Our results showed that Zn O nanoparticles synthesized by Rubia tinctorum extract was significantly more efficient in killing cancer cells than control group. The IC50 value for ZnO nanoparticlesynthesized in Rubia tinctorum extract at 24 hours was about 70 μg/ml. The findings of this study indicated that synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles by using the green chemistry efficiently kill cancer cellsand more investigation on its in vivo effects are also recommended.
