Sol-gel synthesis, characterization and in vitro study of SiO2−CaO−P2O5 bioactive glass nanoparticles with various CaO/P2O5 ratio abstract

Bioactive glass nanoparticles in ternary system of SiO2−CaO−P2O5 with two CaO/P2O5 molar ratios of 4.75 and 19 were synthesized via sol−gel method using TEOS, TEP and calcium nitrate precursors followed by calcination at 650 ℃. Characterization of the synthesized bioactive glass nanoparticles using XRD, FTIR and FESEM techniques revealed the formation of high elemental purity of amorphous glasses. In vitro bioactivities of the synthesized glasses were evaluated in SBF solutions via SEM and FTIR analyses. The results confirmed the formation of apatite layer on surface of the glass nanoparticles at first days of immersion in the SBF It was found this one was intensified upon Increasing CaO.
