The Consequences and Risks of Salafism and Extremism in Balkan on the Region and World

In recent years there is a sharp increase in the number of radical Islamists involved in conflict beyond the region, especially in the Middle East. When this landscape faced with the actual level of economic, social and political development of Western Balkan countries, it becomes clear that not only we face with one of the most important regional security challenges, but this is a threat to the security of Europe and the whole world. The aim of this study was to evaluate the consequences and risks of Salafism and extremism in Balkan, which is mainly due to the presence of Extremists and Salafists like Wahhabism and recently ISIL in this peninsula on the region and the world. The results suggest that the consequences and risks of Salafism and extremism which are derived from this study are as follows: orientation to extremist groups and takfiris, a threat to regional stability, Extreme poverty and unemployment; the presence of the Balkan people in extremist groups such as ISIL, wandering refugees in Balkan and the rest of the world, Further expansion of war, polarization of Islamic communities and reduce the appeal of Islamism.
