Study of Physical and Mechanical Properties of ABS Polymer in Presence of TiO2 Pigment abstract
Although TiO2 pigment has some optical benefits for polymeric parts, it must beconsidered that this pigment may cause some unfavorable effects in the parts. In this paper, effect of type and content of surface treated rutile TiO2 pigment on tensile, impact and hardness properties of a general purpose ABS has been studied. The results showed that impact strength was improved up to 0.5% and 1.5% by organic and inorganic surface treated TiO2 pigments, respectively and although yield stress and maximum strain decreased. After these percentages, impact strength decreased due to agglomeration and decreasing interparticle spacing. Also hardness of all the ABS samples reduced in the presence of inorganic and organic treated TiO2 pigments.
