Abstract:
Natural hydrophobic talc was selected to produce different size of nanoparticles as a flotation collector. The aim of this work was to understand the effect of talc nanoparticles size on the quartz flotation recovery. Planetary mill in several conditions was used to control the size reduc-tion of talc, less than 500, 400 and 300 nm. Zeta potential technic dictated pH 1.5 is the best condition for nano-talc powders and quartz to be physically attached on the quartz particles sur-faces. Talc particles were adsorbed onto the hydrophilic quartz particles to encourage the airbubble attachment, and improved the quartz flotation recovery. It was found that as the talc parti-cle size decreased, the amount of talc dosage and quartz flotation recovery increased
