Abstract:

For incorporating the anti- microbial silver particles into water borne acrylic resins, we prepared nanocomposite resins in two different ways; the first method is based on the blending of nanosilver particles with acrylic latex (previously synthesized by the emulsion polymerization) and the second is synthesizing acrylate/ silver nanocomposite via miniemulsion polymerization. Miniemulsion polymerization can yield better dispersion of nanosilver in the polymeric particles because in this procedure, the organic particles can directly be dispersed in the monomer droplets becoming encapsulated upon polymerization. The morphology of resulted nanocomposites was studied morphologically by the SEM method.
