Numerical Heat Transfer Analysis of Critical Water Flow in aHorizontal Duct abstract
Numerical investigation of convection heat transfer in water flow at critical pressure flowing into a horizontal duct has been carried out using the computational fluid dynamic method. The influence of fluid property variation on flow and heat transfer distributions is thoroughly explored. The interest has been conducted with a numerical study of two dimensional laminar water flow with heat transfer under critical pressure. The discretized forms of governing equations containing the continuity, momentum and energy equations are obtained by the finite volume method and the coupling between pressure and velocity is handled by the SIMPLE Algorithm. Numerical procedures are conducted for sub-cooled water at which enters into a duct with constant surface temperature greater than the fluid critical temperature. Because of the rapid variation of the fluid density near to the critical point, numerical results show an unusual velocity profile for this type ofconvective flow. Also, it was seen that as the fluid temperature approaches to the critical temperature and because of the rapid increase in Prandtl number with temperature, the thermal boundary thickness near the wall becomes very small according to boundary analysis.
