Abstract:
Introduction : Olives and olive oil are reduction factor for heart disease and cancer in the Mediterranean countries. Two main compounds found in olive oil are fattyacids and polyphenols. polyphenols due to having antioxidan properties are the cause of increasing oil stability and the prevention of a variety of human cancers. Therefore olive can be used as a special functional food. Materials and Methods: In this study, sampling of the Iranian olive fruit has been done. In order to measure the total phenol of fruit methanolic extract Folin test method was used. Evaluation of antioxidant polyphenols extracted with DPPH free radical reagents was used. The extract s effect on cell death process and cytotoxicity on cell line breast cancer (MCF7) with MTT assay was evaluated. Assessment of the cell cycle arrest was done with flow cytometry. Results: The olive fruit polyphenolic extract, compared to Ebplatin showed a less toxicity. Combination of drug and extract has shown synergistic effect on cancer cell death. Discussion and Conclusion: According to the less toxicity of polyphenolic extract on the to cancer cell growth arrest compare to chemotherapy drugs, the extract has a competitive effect with the drug. So olive extract can be used as an adjuvant in the treatment, and reducing the side effects of drugs.
