Conservation And Regeneration Project For The Mohammadiyeh Square And Its Surrounding Valuable Elements abstract

Tehran is a city which has been affected by many changes over the time. The historical center of Tehran may be accounted as an example of imbalance, instability and urban transience. Indeed, factors such aspopulation density and unbalanced distribution of population and activity, skeletal and functional depreciation and chaos, lack of infrastructures and appropriate public spaces, environmental pollutions and inconsistency of urban landscape have resulted in invalidation of dignity and values ofhistorical center of Tehran. Tehran encompasses districts with a high historical value which an example of these monuments is Mohammadiyeh square (Former Execution Square) which has been changed greatly until now. This square is formed at the crossing place of both Molavi and Khayyam streets from east to west and north to south respectively. There is avaluable building called SarayeMizani in the north western side of this square which belongs to 2005 (early Pahlavi era). In this regard, the aim ofthis paper is to plan the maintenance and restoration ofMohammadiyeh square in Tehran and its valuable surrounding elements which are discussed as a collection of descriptive (quality), analytical (executive) and comparative methods.
