A Model for using DSS in Urban Management: Locating Optimal Sites for Urban Service Facilities abstract
The importance of decision making in modern societies is known to all. The complexity,diversity and mass of information as well as computer abilities in the field of information, identify the existential philosophy of information systems and decision support systems. Due to the increasing urbanization that is associated with complexity, variety and massive amount of urban information, it is impossible to encompass the various aspects of urban management without using support systems. This paper, with a functional purpose, using descriptive methods and literature review, after introducing urban management (UM) and decision support systems (DSS) is tried to examine examples of application of these systems in urban decision-making and policy-making (urban management). Then, a comprehensive model for the relationship between urban management and spatial decision support systems (SDSS) is presented. Finally, applications of presented model are considered in locating optimal sites for urban service facilities
