Develop the Underwood’s Equation to Calculate Minimum Reflux Ratio for Column With Two Side Stream Upper Than Feed abstract

Distillation has been the widely used separation method and is still the main workhorse in petroleum, chemical, petrochemical and many other process industries. One of the ways to predict numbers of trays in binary and multicomponent distillation tower is short cut methods. Fenske-Underwood-Gilliland method is a simple method classified in short cut methods. In this method, the distillation column with one feed, an overhead and a bottom product is considered and underwood equation is used to calculate minimum reflux ratio for this column. In this research, a new method based on underwood method is developed to calculate minimum reflux ratio for column with two side stream upper than feed. The result of this model compared with McCabe-Thiele method. The result shows that proposed method has a good agreement with McCabe-Thiele method.
