Ceria as a promising material for SOFC abstract
Ceria as a rare-earth oxide is an attractive material with desired properties such high mechanical strength, good structural stability at sufficiently high temperature, good catalytic properties and high ionic-electronic conductivity at relatively low temperatures for a variety of applications such as industrial catalytic processes and Fuel Cells specially Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. Doped or undoped CeO2, due to the number of effective redox Ce4+/Ce3+ sites and their ability to exchange oxygen can be considered as an actual promising candidate for SOFC electrodes and electrolytes. Some of the recent studies have concentrated on developing the synthesis routes, fabrication and specifications of doped and mixed CeO2 to attain toward the highest conductivity and performance.
