Using Vulcan XC-72 and 4,4-dipyridine for deposition of Pt and investigation the performance of Gas Diffusion Electrodefor polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells abstract

Pt nanoparticles well-dispersed on Vulcan XC-72 were prepared using an in situ one step method. In a mixture consisting of Vulcans, ethylene glycol, H2PtCl6, 4,4- dipyridine, and dimethyl formamide (DMF), Pt nanoparticles were generated in situ and loaded on Vulcan XC-72. Electrochemical activity of the catalyst was tested by RDE techniques. The electrochemical active surface area (EAS) gained from the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. The structure and nature of the resulting Pt/Vulcan XC-72 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD).
