Quantifying the Triple Helix relationship in nano-technology: A comparative study on Iran and Switzerland abstract

This study aims to find the differences between internal and international relationships in Iran and Switzerland’s nanorelatedresearch. After collecting all the articles indexed from 2008 to 2015 with the address of Iran and Switzerland inWOS database, shares of different sectors and Triple Helix relations have been analysed. The results show a significantdifference between the two countries’ structures of scientific research. Unlike Switzerland in which the role of industryis very significant, the share of industry in Iran is close to zero. Similarly, the role of government and internationalparties shows a similar pattern. Although the synergic trilateral relations in Switzerland is significantly higher than Iranas well as bilateral Government-Industry relations, the synergic bilateral relations between University-Industry is notstatistically different and the Government-University synergies is substantially higher in Iran. This contradicting resultsis interpreted to lie in specific characters of Iran. Some theoretical implications and policy conclusions suggested at theend.
