Asset Management Capability and Competency Elements in Distribution Electric Power Companies in Smart Grid abstract
Asset management is one of the most significant aspects of the smart grid. The increasing trend toward asset management development and implementation in electricity distribution sector has motivated electricity distribution companies to design and implement asset management strategies. Smart grid requires a dramatic revolution in electricity sector ranging from retail market development to automatic maneuvering in electricity distribution grid, influencing physical assets of an electricity distribution company and vice versa. Hence, achievement to high level asset management competency ensures the prosperity of an electricity distribution company in a smart grid environment. The aim of this paper is to show how an electricity distribution company can improve its way towards asset management maturity in smart grid. For this reason, we propose asset management capability and competency components that are required to improve asset management of electricity utilities. Our model is based on two reference models: Deadman asset management capability model and Smith model pertaining to align resources, capabilities and competencies of a corporate. Note that the abstract is to represent the problem definition as well as the contribution in one paragraph.
