Issues in Language Planning and Medical Neologism

The aim of the present of study is to investigate the acceptability and application and the usage of some neologisms coined by the Academy of Persian Language and Literature in the field of medicine among the students of medicine from the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. In this study, it was tried out to scrutinize the degree of the students, familiarity, usage and agreement with the new terms coined in the field of medicine based on the variables of time, the morphological features of the terms, and also the difference between the interns and the residents. The idea is that the Academy of Persian language and Literature is the most official organization in charge of the coining new terminologies in different fields of inquiry. The results of the study revealed that despite the considerable and sustained efforts made by the Academy of Persian language and Literature, the medical terms have not gained much popularity among the medical students and the students prefer to use the English and theLatin terms instead of the Persian equivalents.
