Abstract:
Investigation of flooding velocity in different conditions has a great influence on designing the unit operations in a more precise and accurate way, as well. In this paper, considering a pilot pulsed sieve plate extraction column, the effects of the volumetric rates, pulsation rate, solute concentrations and mass transfer directions on the flooding regions have been studied. We can conclude that by increasing of those effective operating parameters the column floods rapidly as the same as without mass transfer systems. More over by increasing of solute concentrations in dispersed phase transferred to continuous phase the drop coalescence circumstances are improved and the flooding condition is occurred in higher flow rates. Otherwise mass transfer from continuous to dispersed phase has reverse effects on maximum throughput.
