Abstract:

Recently, titanium alloys are extensively used in the aerospace field such as jet-engine blades and emerging fields such as tools and sport products for their superior mechanical properties. In this work, the tensile and hardness properties of ultrafine-grain Ti processed by surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) have been studied. The ultrafine-grain Ti shows high strength which can be comparable to that of commercially pure titanium. The tensile properties of SMATed samples increased by about 28 percent in ultimate tensile strength and 26 percent in yield stress in comparison with untreated samples. The hardness of SMATed samples increased by about 2.8 times with acceptable ductility.
