Abstract:

Hybridization of polymer composites with shape memory alloys (SMA) is one of the recent approaches to make smart structures. Their contact properties remain unchanged until existence of connection between SMA and matrix. So considering contact behavior of these materials could determine these composites range of effectiveness andload bearing. The most common method to estimate contact parameters is single wire pull out test. In this manuscript, Abaqus software was employed to simulate the thermomechanical behavior of SMA as well as hybrid SMA composite laminates of a pull out test. During numerical simulations of SMA wire, two constitutive models as Auricchio and Lagoudas were used. The results for both models showed that the methodology of this study has acceptable accuracy to simulate contact between matrix and SMA wire. This simulation showed the initiation and progression of damage in single wire pull out test well and would be helpful in designing these smart structures
