Abstract:
The effect of the relative thickness of the SD7080 and ground effect on the aerodynamic behavior of Selig/Donovan airfoil (SD7080) numerically investigated. Also airfoil is studied. Reynolds number is 40000 and angles of attack are considered 0° and 4°. Finite volume method has been used to solve the RANS equations and four equation turbulence model (Transition SST) are used. The obtained results compared with the others experimental and numerical data and good compatibility is observed in predicting aerodynamic coefficients. The numerical results determined the adverse pressure gradient, laminar separation bubble and transition of laminar to turbulent boundary layer. According to the results, full turbulence separation accrue on the SD7080 in the ground effect and free flow. The results showed that lift history of SD7080 during in time has slight fluctuation. Analyzing of the aerodynamic characteristics specified that in the ground effect and angle of attack equal to 0°, the lift coefficient of the SD7080 airfoil decreases but it increases at angle of attack 4°.
