Innovative approach to road maintenance for sustainable pavements through combined cold & hot in place recycling technologies

The advantages deriving from the in place recycling are very well known since long time as in the rehabilitation of flexible road pavements the first attempts of cold and hot technologies took place during the first half of the past century. The utilisation of the above technologies involves direct savings and enables the manager of an highway network to offer higher level of service to the users in a more effective safeguard of the environment which reduces dramatically the social cost. The present paper refers the italian experience acquired by Pavimental in the field of the maintenance of motorway asphalt pavements by using the technologies of in place recycling both hot and cold. In the last years in Italy a big effort took place in experimenting and consolidating these strategic tools for the management of the road pavements maintenance.
