Abstract:
In this study, effect of milling time (3, 6 and 10 h) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded Al/SiC composites accomplished via solid state processing were investigated. Hot extrusion was performed under a force of 150 kN at 500 ̊C. Consolidation process was examined by measuring sample densities using Archimedes principle. Distribution of SiC particles in composites were studied by optical microscope and quadrat method. Vickers hardness and tensile tests were done to determine mechanical properties of samples. The results revealed that increasing milling time caused better distribution of SiC particles and improvement of hardness and tensile strength.
