The effect of the educational intervention based on PRECEDE Model on the general health of elderly referring to comprehensive health service abstract

Background: Increased number of old citizen, resulting in increased spread of chronic diseases and undermined general health amongst the elderly has caused numerous problems to the societies. Considering the particular circumstances of the old ages, including economical problems, social seclusion, and depression, the public health in this period of life is important and a matter of discussion.Objectives: Study of the effects of educational interference based on Precede Model on general health of the elderly referring to Comprehensive Health Services Centers of Some-a-sara.Materials and Methods: The present semi-empirical study included 80 aged persons who referred to Comprehensive Health Services Centers of Some-a-sara in 2018. The participants were divided using multi-stage random sampling method into interference and control groups. A questionnaire developed by the researcher, designed based on Precede educational model structures, was used for interference, and a general 28-question questionnaire was used to measure the general health. General health of the participants was measured before interference and one month after interference. The data analysis was performed using chi-squared as well as independent and paired t statistical tests.Result: The mean total score of precede model components consists of predisposing factors (awareness and attitude), enabling factors, and behavioral factors and at the result total general health eldery of the interference group compared to those of the control group, which was indicative of a significant difference (P<0.05) after educational interference.Conclusion: It seems that educational interference of Precede model can enhance general health of the aged population
