A review of the entrapment neuropathies abstract

Entrapment Neuropathy is defined as: Pressure or Pressure induced injury to a segment of a peripheral nerve secondary to anatomical or pathological structures. The nerve is injured by 1. chronic direct compression, 2. Angulations, 3. stretching forces causing mechanical damage to the nerve. In general, all entrapments have one of the following basic compressing structures:1-Fibro-osseous tunnels like Carpal tunnel.2- Fibro-tendinous arcades of muscle origins: Cubital tunnel and piriformis syndrome 3- abnormal bands: like meralgia paresthetica, thoracic outlet syndrome. In this article we discuss the most famous peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes.
