Adsorption Isotherm Studies of Cd (II) Ions from Aqueous Solution Using Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron Supported onto Zeolite abstract

Water pollution is a serious environmental problem by heavy metals due to their toxicityand tendency to bioaccumulation [1, 2]. The heavy metal ions are not only toxic to livingorganisms in water, but also cause harmful effects on animals and humans [2]. This paperdescribes the adsorption isotherm studies of Cd (II) ions from aqueous solution using nanoscalezero-valent iron supported onto zeolite. The amount of metal ions adsorbed increased as theinitial concentration, adsorbent dosage and pH increased. Among the three adsorption isothermtested, Langmuir, Frundlich and Temkin, Frundlich gave the best fit with R2 value of 0.991. Thisis indicated the adsorption of Cd (II) on nanoscale zero-valent iron supported onto zeolite wasoccurred as multilayer [3].
