Abstract:

Computer technology applications have become a vital teaching and learning instrument to teach English Language effectively in a classroom. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the pedagogical factors towards using computer technology for teaching and learning English from students’ and instructors’ point of view and to discuss the differences between students and instructors’ attitudes towards the use of computer technology application in EFL classroom. This study uses mixed method design where quantitative data acquired will be analysed using SPSS and qualitative data collected will be analysed thematically. The quantitative data is collected through questionnaires that are distributed among 100 second year students from the Department of English at the Basic Education College of Diyala and 57 instructors were selected from various university in Iraq while 7 instructors will be chosen as qualitative data. The study found that the instructors’ and students’ agreed that computer technology creates a more conducive learning and teaching environment as language learning are more accessible using computer technology. Although the results are proven positive, the instructors’ still struggle on manoeuvring the computers thus recommendations on training instructors’ to properly use computer technology as a teaching instrument is proposed.
